A state of firmness and soundness of judgment, unshaken by external events. Practiced through attentive application of emotional intelligence in response to challenging situations. A person with a high degree of composure will maintain a conscious emotional flat line at a critical moment of decision when emotion can greatly influence the outcome. Can be developed by entering into open-ended arguments with people whom one knows will never concede the point, and learning to spot emotional responses and neutralizing them, both in self and opponent. Composure, as a phenomenon, is a cumulative result of a wide range of other personal character traits that have to do with self-control.
